AUNT DIANE
A Grief Poem
By Kathryn Largent

To anyone who ever loved you…
You are a strength that resides in me forever.
You are a hope that shines brightly.
You are a smile on the faces of those who remember you.
You are a safe haven for lost souls—for my soul.
You are a warm place to lay my tired body.
You are my saving grace when nobody else wants me.
You are Mom, Sister, Nana, and Friend.
You were the one person who truly knew me and loved me anyway.
Everything you were, I aspire to be.
Every drop of hope, every ounce of affection, and every bit of understanding I aspire to project.
Your strength, your words, and your beauty I carry within me.
You are gone from this place, it’s true.
But you live through me…
You live through all of us—all the people you’ve ever touched.
May we celebrate your life and passing by being
the Mom, Friend, Nana, and Sister you taught us to be.
